Mentors

North Valley Toastmasters has a mentor program.  This program will help those who are new or those who simply want someone with whom they can work to perfect their presentation styles.

If you would like a mentor, you have two choices.

The first is to have the Education VP assign one to you. This is usually done when you become a member.  Mentors assigned to you in this way will generally participate more than volunteer mentors (described below.) At the bottom of this page, you will find some information that explains what a new member can expect of their mentor.

The second option is to just ask one of the following volunteers if they can help you. This option is best if you have a special presentation coming up and you are primarily interested in help with that specific presentation. This option is also useful when doing special tasks such as Toastmaster and General Evaluator as well as when you are speaking.

Current Volunteers:

Dan Web (408) 729-8775 - work
Fletcher Johnson (408) 946-0960 - Anytime

Mentor information for new members:

Your mentor is a resource. Like all resources, the value you get from your mentor is directly related to the effort you make to interact with your mentor.  Many of our members work full time as well as participate in TM. Keep this in mind and if you (as a new member) do not hear from your mentor, feel free to contact them - especially before you do any task for the first time.

The schedule is usually made available shortly before it will be in effect.  Also, when some members can't be available to perform a task, then they will try to find a replacement.  If you, as a new member, are asked to perform a task in this manner, then your mentor will not know about it. Please let your mentor know whenever you are assigned a task for the first time and they will help you understand how to prepare in advance for that task.

If you are not satisfied with your mentor for any reason, contact the VP of Education and they will help you find a new mentor.

Also, your mentor remains your mentor until such time as you feel you no longer need or desire a mentor.  Some people like to work with their mentor even years after they have joined.
